We have been to The Rustic a couple time now. Located on Church and Market, a couple blocks away from the 'main' Castro Street area, they are a bit off the hustle of the Castro. Interior is simple and nice, with a large patio in the back. We always choose to be in the patio area. Service has been consistent and attentive. They have a decent variety of menu items for dinner, and the food we have ordered has been good each time. Yes, you can find some other 'specialized' cuisines elsewhere, but for consistently good dining, service and atmosphere, we have enjoyed coming here.
The Rustic is the best restaurant in San Francisco that you haven’t yet heard of. Whether you learn of it from this review or from your friends who won’t stop talking about it, you will hear about it eventually. The only question is if you will get in and try it before it’s crowded every day.
Between the staff, the ambiance, and the food, you can’t look anywhere without seeing the care and love being put into what they are building here. If you can’t see it, I’m sorry, but you’re either blind or just not looking hard enough.
Do yourself a favor and try the Porcini Ravioli. Their best dish in my opinion. Though, that is not to say the rest of their food is anything less than some of the best Italian food I’ve ever had. The fried chicken is also to die for, both of which I got tonight.
They also are happy to accommodate family style dining, which was great when I was here one Wednesday with my family. By tomorrow night (Sunday) I’ll have been here three days this week, and I have absolutely no regrets about that decision. Every moment I spend here gives me the peace I’ve been looking for in this city.
If my review can’t convince you it’s worth it to try a good thing, then nothing will.

Absolutely loved this place- everything from the vibes, food, and the staff. Loved the Orecchiete- sauce was cheesy but not overwhelming and went super well with the sausage and the bits of broccoli rabe. Also rly liked how the pasta was al dente since I don’t like it when it’s too soft/mushy. You can also get some complimentary focaccia bread as well!
Their dessert was also amazing (we ordered two and ended up ordering one more)- standout was the chocolate budino (creamy foam on top with strawberry bits and rich chocolate custard and everything balanced each other so well). Tiramisu was light and had a perfect ratio of the cream and ladyfingers! Vibes are cute too and would def come back

December 2025:
Used to come to this spot often when Chow was here. But that was a long time ago. Came here on a rainy Sunday evening for dinner.
We started with the mushroom pizza to share. People liked it. I thought the truffle oil was not right for me. Would not order that again. For main, I ordered the vegetable tanguine. Portion was large. The dish could have used some more salt and pepper. It was a little bland.
Service was good.

Came here after finding this place on Resy. It’s actually quite good, though a little on the expensive side.
We got calamari, grilled seabass (branzino), the steak and tiramisu. All were pretty good.
